We made sure our design kept the header super tight away from the front tires. This way, riders with oversized front tires with ice picks wouldn’t have any fitment concerns. Furthermore, we made sure our pipe would clear the widest ice tire out there like the MASSIVE Ice King tires on the rear that barely fit in the swingarm. Our background, however, is mostly in MX so we also kept that in mind to ensure we had a rock solid pipe that would work in all conditions. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen it came time to discuss the results of the pipe, Bryan was extremely happy, noting that our pipes easily beat stock and the FMF systems on the Dyno. One of the main things Bryan commented on was about our system’s speed to power. Dyno’s can measure many ways, and although sometimes controversial due to the variables involved, we like to also measure power over time instead of your normal curve just showing RPM\/power.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAny professional in the industry would agree that you need to know what you’re doing when it comes to the dyno. Bryan has had much experience dynoing some of the top Flat Track bikes out there, and he utilizes this power\/time measure along with many others during on-track testing. Focusing on peak power only shows so much, if the pipe gets to peak power a half a second faster, you’ll already be in the corner before the guy with the slower to power bike would. Not only did our pipe win on power\/time, it won all over on the dyno: time, peak, and just plain power gain over the whole curve.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen the pipe was completed we installed the system on a handful of racer’s bikes to truly test the durability. After a few tweaks, we’ve got a rock solid pipe that will provide years of performance and power increase. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBryan sets up many racers and tunes their bikes in his shop, he’s very specific on his tuning and setup. Not everyone is near a Dyno though or wants to spend the money to dial their bike in so we went back to the Dyno this time at \u003ca rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.labaronspowersports.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eLaBaron’s Powersports\u003c\/a\u003e on a different bike with Alex Galeczka, where his mastermind got to work building a Power Commander 5 map for our pipe. This allowed us to see a different bike on a different dyno and confirmed our previous results with Bryan.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis time it was a 2016 KTM 450SX-F or as some say 2016 \u0026amp; ½ because it’s the newer model KTM’s. We started with stock again and honestly the mapping on the stocker is a touch lean in certain spots but not too bad. After dropping the rear shock and almost dismantling the entire bike just to get the stock header off we installed our pipe (no need to drop the shock anymore to remove your header ours fits without removing it). Just installing our pipe alone with no tuning yielded only slight gains maybe a horse and a half throughout the curve. However, the AFR went very lean so we would not recommend running our pipe without tuning, flashing, or installing a fuel controller. We did notice though that although we didn’t see a lot of gain in the RPM\/power graph if we moved to time, it showed we got there about a half a second quicker. Throttle response was also noticeably better.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAfter tuning the pipe to the proper fuel-air ratio we were able to pick up on this bike almost 5 full horsepower! You could argue that there may have been another horse or two if we tuned the stock system, which may be true, but our goal is to show you on a typical KTM 450SX-F if you installed our pipe along with the PC5 with our tune this is what you should expect to gain. We did however really want this to be a fair test, and luckily this bike already had a new Pro-Circuit pipe that we were also able to run against. After a few runs, we could see that the Pro-Circuit pipe also required some tuning to bring it where it needed to be. We began fielding requests to build a pipe for these bikes when they were released, following our great success and power gains we've had on the KLX250 machines. We were fortunate enough to find a 300SM at a local dealership and purchased it to get started on a potential pipe design. Right out of the gate, we noticed the KLX300 \u0026amp; KLX300SM are woefully disappointing in the horsepower department, so we set out to build an exhaust system and tuning package that can make these bikes a little more fun to ride. With a stock exhaust outlet about the size of your pinky finger, we knew there was great potential to open the exhaust up and let the motor breathe.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs with all of our new exhaust builds, we hit the dyno with a combination of different header configurations, looking to find the best pipe to suit the 300. After multiple head and mid pipe combinations, we were satisfied that we had found the highest performance-gaining setup. In these initial stages, we didn’t have fuel controller options, but based on the stock fuel mapping, the gains were tremendous with the final pipe design we settled on. The design added 2hp down low and 4hp peak and above 8,000 rpm, carrying the horsepower much further to nearly 8-10hp at redline with pipe alone. Wanting to see what was fully capable, we removed the snorkel first and made a few dyno runs, revealing that the bike gained a touch more with more airflow. When we fully removed the airbox lid, we found it gained quite a bit more, yet, leaving the highest gain hp runs we had seen so far. An open lid and our full exhaust system peaked at nearly 27hp at 8,000 rpm. Down low without the lid, we gained a nice 3-4hp but clearly lean and needing a fuel controller. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWith fuel controllers in hand, we were back at LaBaron’s Power Sports dyno again to build our custom fuel maps and finalize our tuning and testing. Our bone-stock KLX300SM produced 20.34 horsepower at the wheel for our baseline runs. We found the bike really struggles to crest 16hp below 7000rpm, and then all of a sudden, a \"2-stroke-like\" power curve kicks in out of nowhere. Installing the Barker's exhaust pipe and keeping the stock airbox lid, we gained 2-3 additional horsepower below 7000rpm, 4.6 more horsepower at peak, and 8-10 more horsepower at redline with a much flatter curve from 7-10.5k.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAir\/fuel ratios, even with the stock airbox lid and our pipe, showed a few spots that leaned out a bit at some of the lower cruising rpms, so we do recommend a fuel controller. We tested and developed maps for two different tuning options, both with and without the airbox lid. Correcting the lean fuel trim is not an option on this machine, as it goes dangerously lean at the low to mid throttle openings once the intake is opened up. Ultimately, the airbox lid removal is good for an additional 1.5-2hp throughout the curve, and with the proper tuning, you can see a drastic improvement in power from idle to the rev limiter. Our final results with the pipe and modified or removed airbox lid were 2-4hp increases below 7000rpm, nearly 6.3 more peak horsepower, and nearly 11hp more at the rev limit. The curve from peak to read line is almost completely flat, where it used to nosedive on the stock setup. Above 8,000 rpm, the gains run from 20-40% nearing redline.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn summary, the bike responds very well to installing a Barker's exhaust and gains a substantial amount of horsepower. Gains are everywhere in the curve and really take off up top in the over-rev. Modifying the snorkel to a KDX 200 snorkel or removing the lid entirely gains another few horsepower, but definitely requires tuning. In the end, running a KDX Snorkel or open lid, our pipe, and a custom-mapped PCFC or EHS fuel controller gained an unreal 6+ horsepower, going from 20.34 to 26.61 peak horsepower and much more in the over-rev where the stocker used to fall flat. We were able to smooth out some of the abrupt \"2nd powerband\" to make a smoother transition once it hits that 7k mark, removing the dead spot. It is still there, though, and we have determined that it is due to the machine's camshaft profiles. Working alongside the development of our 2021 KLX 300SM, we built a fresh pipe to suit the extremely popular “R” model. Much of the story behind the KLX300R and the SM\/DS models is the same when it comes to the development; however, there are some definite differences between the two bikes and their power delivery.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eWorking with \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/labaronspowersports.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eLaBaron’s Power Sports\u003c\/a\u003e and their Dynojet 168R chassis dyno, we got to work developing our pipe for the 300R, looking to gather all the data and build custom fuel maps to suit the R model. Upon finishing our KLX300SM pipe, we were very curious to see how the 300R performed in comparison. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eIn stock form, the bike made 24.18hp but signed off abruptly after 8000 rpm. Fuel tuning was hit or miss, especially in the low end. Once the exhaust was installed, we noticed immediately that the area above 8000 rpm improved significantly. Low-end power was improved in some areas, but the already lean fueling caused some loss of power in the extreme low end. We determined that the exhaust is safe to run with stock fueling but only if the airbox remains 100% stock, as opening the lid will lean out the low-speed fueling too much and cause issues.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eTuning the bike’s fuel trims resulted in significant improvements in rideability and peak power both with and without the airbox lid in place. We developed two Power Commander 6 maps, one for a stock lid setup and the second for a KDX 200 snorkel or open lid configuration. The EHS Fuel Controller option also fixes the lean conditions down low. Running the fully open lid produced peak power, but the KDX option is so close that it’s also a very good option to fully utilize the most gains vs. the stock snorkel.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eBeing that we had a unique opportunity to dyno the R \u0026amp; SM almost back to back, we figured we’d note the differences between them. The R really has a much more linear power curve from down low right up to the 8,000rpm mark compared to the SM’s “2-stroke style” power curve.  However, the R version seems to drop off after 8k, even sharper than the SM model. The 300R in stock form comes out of the gate with a good 3-4 more peak and more down low, but clearly the SM likes to run up in the higher rpm’s where its best power lies. We’re sure this was planned in the cam profiles designed by Kawasaki based on the application of the two bikes. We were very pleased to achieve nice performance gains in both versions of Kawasaki’s new 300 platform.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eIn summary, on the KLX300R, the Barker’s pipe, along with a modified or removed airbox lid and fuel controller, gained 3.5 more peak horsepower.
